From a series of promo posters designed by Jenny Burrows and Matt Kappler as part of a portfolio project. The Smithsonian was unaware of their creation until the clever ads went viral, at which point the Smithsonian asked Jenny to remove them from her portfolio or edit out any mention of the esteemed museum.
Vintage ads are an interesting way to look back at American pop culture history. Whether unintentionally funny, cheesy, or in this case, sexist, vintage ads are an entertaining look back at the past. American society, in terms of being sexist, has certainly come a long way since ads like these were prevalent. Or has it?
The cobbler responsible for this advertisement definitely has a sense of humor.
