Historically Hardcore – Amazingly Awesome

Historically Hardcore: a series of promo posters designed by Jenny Burrows and Matt Kappler as part of a portfolio project. The Smithsonian was unaware of their creation until the clever ads went viral, at which point the Smithsonian asked Jenny to remove them from her portfolio or edit out any mention of the esteemed museum.

  1. "Main stream rap", is most certainly crap, however...

Setting aside the utter bad-assery of those comparisons, I will have to agree and disagree with the conversation that has spawned from them.
    1. James, read a book man. May help…
    2. 50 Cent can get fucked.
    3. “Main stream rap” (Which I would not actaully classify as rap, nor would I disgrace it with the term hip hop, I would call it something like idiotic consumerist garbage intentionally made to keep [particularly but not explicitly] young black men striving after a glorified unrealistic life style that revolves around violence, drugs, alcohol, objectification of women and money, and NOT focusing on more realistic, important goals in life.) is not only crap, but also keeping the masses (particularly youth) dumb and violent.
    4. That being said, there are also most certainly hip hop and rap artists who are intelligent, conscious, positive, political, active in social change/revolution, and realistic. Hip hop became popular because of opressed teenagers voicing their anger and resistance over a beat. Do not let the “rap” that you hear on the radio taint your vision, or rather, auditory perception, of the art/movement.

Maybe some of you haven’t heard but there is such thing as conscious hip hop. I am a huge hip hop fan and I do listen to some rap that people might find offensive but there are a shit ton of rappers who talk about important and relevant issues

Teddy Roosevelt was shot in the chest, the bullet first going through the outside of his jacket pocket, steel glasses case, spectacles, other side of the glasses case and then a 50-page speech folded in two. Then, and only then, did the bullet then have access to this ol’ Bull Moose. He was shot on the way to the speech, not during it. In fact, when he mentioned being shot during the speech, people didn’t believe him and so he opened his shirt to show the blood stain. At least use the correct information when making this kind of thing.

Andrew Jackson was shot in the chest in a dual; not only did he then shoot his opponent, but when he was shot he didnt move an inch.

lil native, just shut up. you know it’s true, rappers are nothing but big crybabies, they always cry about stuff like getting shot, getting locked up, and whatnot. they NEVER shut up about it. it’s annoying. like you. and how does that make us jealous of him, exactly? what’s there to be jealous about? ‘oh, yes, i’m so damn jealous, i wish i could get locked up and shot and then cry about it.’ you’re dumb. no one’s jealous, just stating the truth. are you jealous of all the people you don’t like? it makes no sense to say that. idiot.

I’m fairly certain that 50 Cent didn’t deserve to get shot. Some one that’s a blight upon society at his level deserves to be punched in the neck, drawn and quartered, keelhauled, and have the rest of his sad carcass incinerated.

To Ha, if rappers are nothing but crybabbies then so is every other musician. Country boys never shut up about drinking and getting dumped, rockers never shut up about “the man” and letting go, christians never shut up about God and Jesus. People do music about their lives, if they got shot let them rap about it and 50 got shot 9 times Roosevelt was once so you might wanna think about that too.

people dont even bootleg 50′s music anymore. would have been funny 8 years ago when he was still kind of cool. he tried to be pac but he didnt go to an expensive music college, he didnt play the mouse king in his privite school play, nor did he back up dance for digital underground. so he couldnt quiet get to pac “thug life” status. there all a bunch of made up record label charecters…

50 Cent sells a gangster image; getting shot is a huge boon to the credibility of that image. He’s not “whining” so much as he’s selling albums and tickets.

To be fair, 50 cent was shot several times from point blank range, including through his face. Pretty hard.

hey person below me, shut up. music and intelligence level/political activeness are completely irrelevant things. Music doesn’t sound good because its singer is smart, it sounds good because it sounds good. Maybe you don’t like rap music but that doesn’t mean the world doesn’t like rap music–clearly it does, the rap industry makes millions each year. i’m not saying if i’m a fan or not, but don’t make stupid arguments about things you don’t like to make yourself sound smart. And if you think rap music is “idiotic consumerist garbage intentionally made to keep [particularly but not explicitly] young black men striving after a glorified unrealistic life style that revolves around violence, drugs, alcohol, objectification of women and money, and NOT focusing on more realistic, important goals in life”, you’re an idiot, because I can assure you 99% of rap fans do not have those goals in mind, you’re just being arrogant and stereotypical. Oh, and I don’t know if you know this, but most fans of rap songs are white.

This is the most fucked up comment section I’ve ever been on haha! “boom” and “lil native”, is it so hard to actually type out a FULL word on a keyboard? Try it out sometime, it might help your lives out a little bit… douches.

P.S. Rappers are not musically talented…. at all! It’s just crackheads up on stage spitting out some bullshit that quite frankly not everybody cares about and is the most idiotic shit that i’ve ever had the chance to listen to. I don’t know how anybody follows douchbags like them who do nothing but start trouble for no reason and are constantly in and out of jail… or are getting shot because apparently thats the cool thing to do now. Thats just my opinion of course. LATER!!! =D

lolololol i love it when someone takes such super offense to something that has no bearing what so ever on their lives. and also i love when people jump at the chance to remind everyone (because everyone ALREADY KNOWS THIS) that the top 40 of rap music has no intellectual redeeming value. really breaking new grounds.
